A little “me time” away from the company of your kids can be really important. A trusted family member or friend could watch your kids so that you could get a break for a couple of hours. If you do not take breaks, stress will build up and the tensions will keep you from developing a healthy relationship with your children.
If you child is teething, chill some pickles, cucumbers or carrots and let your child gnaw on them using a mesh teether. Other things can also provide relief, but children generally prefer chewing on something that has some taste. If a child chews longer on things, they will feel a lot better throughout the day.
Be smart and pick your battles! Only fight over things that are critically important. Parenting walks a fine line between protecting your child and accepting who they are.
Children want to be useful, to belong, and to have a sense of autonomy. When you provide them with household chores to do while you do your chores, you help them attain these goals. Let your child put away the silverware when you unload the dishwasher. Let your kid sort the socks when it comes time to fold the laundry. Small tasks help them feel like they’ve being independent, and they’ll be helping you out at the same time.
Not every child is social or outgoing. There are children who are shy, which is fine. You should do something about it if you notice that your child is more withdrawn than they should be. If they seem more withdrawn than normal, it might be an idea to visit the pediatrician, just in case there are any underlying issues that are causing them to behave this way.
To calm your baby, apply lavender oil to your neck and lovingly hold your little one close to you. The smell of lavender is very soothing to the senses. Lavender oil can also be used to help a child fall to sleep when nap time arrives because the oil is very calming.
Using charts to document accomplishment is a good tactic in teaching your child to learn new tasks. For instance, you could make a chart that has 20 squares, and each time he completes the new task, you can place a sticker on another square. Your child should receive a reward for filling in the whole chart. A chart can help your child see what he is doing well, it will further motivate him to continue doing well in anticipation of a reward for good work.
Take caution to not demoralize your child during disciplining. These types of words only hurt and humiliate a child and will not improve behavior. Instead, encourage your child with positive language to change his behavior for the better.
It is very important for parents to keep children with attention and behavioral conditions occupied. These children have tons of energy and they can misbehave if they are not kept busy. Make sure that your child’s daily schedule includes some physical activity, too, such as an hour of playtime at the park or an hour of bike riding.
Do not expect to bond instantly with your stepchild. Children may be resentful of their parents’ broken marriage. Go slowly and don’t force anything. With time you can forge a relationship together.
An essential practice of good parenting is praising children when they behave well. It is natural that children seek attention. If you do not pay attention to your children when they behave well, acting out will be the next thing they will try. Ignoring a child’s good behavior can be very dangerous, because it can tempt the child to display poor behavior just because they are so desperate for attention.
Try to give them suggestions on what to do instead of what not to do.. If you keep repeating to your child that he or she cannot do something, you are creating a temptation, along with some resentment. When they are trying to do something they are not supposed to, tell them what they can do so they can feel in control.
